The Beginning

In the book The Tao of Pooh, Piglet asks Pooh where he will begin the story.  Pooh replies that he will "begin the story at the beginning".  The story of Gravity and Grace Yoga began Wednesday November 10th.

We practiced some Sun Salutation, worked on Mountain Pose, Down Ward Dog, and Warrior II.  It was wonderful.  Dru and Rochelle were amazing and I look forward to seeing them again on their mats soon.  Thank you both for sharing your practice with me.

Since the space is small and cozy, five adults are the maximum number of students for each scheduled class.  Unless, we specifically discuss childcare assistance (very, very limited) please know that children may not stay in another room to wait for the class to finish.  Please RSVP here on the blog (first you must become a follower to post) or on the Gravity and Grace Yoga Facebook page.  Wear comfortable clothes and you may want to bring some socks to put on after the class.  Finally, arrive at least ten minutes before the scheduled class time to get settled in.

Whew, so much to know and so easy.  I am so grateful for everyone that has helped me get to this very spot.  Love to you all!  And I hope to hear from you all soon.

Check out the pictures of the space thus far.

The Little Yoga Space That Could

The Universe brings me what I need when I need it.

My journey that has brought me to this very moment has been a long one.  I wanted to follow my heart or, maybe it was a little lower in my gut, that I needed to take my yoga practice deeper.  I thought about how I would begin this journey and decided that I would need to leave something behind to begin on such a path.

I began with my job.   I left my position as a Shelter Director of a 24 hour emergency shelter for domestic violence survivors this past summer.  It was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made.  I loved the people I worked with and the brave individuals I was so fortunate to meet.

I promptly started a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training that focuses on a classical approach to Yoga.  I have received exactly what I asked for: a journey to deepen my practice.  I will wholeheartedly admit that in the manner that it was delivered to me was not what I had imagined.  After two months into the program, I reflected back to the last four day yoga filled weekend and realized that what I need to deepen my practice has always been inside of me.  During one of the class times, an amazing teacher said that his mat is his home.  He threw down is mat and pointed at it.  And that is when the light bulb went off and I realized that I, too, am at home on my mat and have always had what I needed.

I came home and began to create the space, Gravity & Grace Yoga.  It is an intimate yoga space, will accomodate up to six people, which includes me in the count.  The yoga instruction will be for beginning students (we are all beginners really, aren't we?) to the yoga asanas.  For November and December 2010, all classes will be free.  Starting in 2011, all classes at the Gravity & Grace Yoga space will be donation only. First class will be Wednesday November 10th at 6:30 pm.  Afterwards, cocktails and appetizers will be served.  Check back often.  Pictures to be posted soon.

Much love,
Sharon
